I submitted a feedback "Office 2016 reporting as 365" Feature wise Office 2016 was frozen at Oct 2015 and Office 2019 at Oct 2018, while 365 continues to evolve.Īnd the nonsense in the About dialog is worse than confusing, it is flat out wrong, a mistake in the programming, assuming "Version 16=365". Version numbers are supposed to be a way of identifying the base code, which means features in a program. Frankly, I've always thought that when 2016 was released MS should have created a new version number for 365 at that point, ie Office 2016: V16, Office 365:V17, It does not have the same feature set as 365. Calling 2019 Version 16 is confusingīecause it is not the same as 365 or Office 2016. But MS's excuse is that they continue to use the same version number as 2016 because "2019" is simply a feature frozen snapshot of Office 365/version 16. In normal usage that would require a new version number. But what MS is doing in Office 2019 is "incorrect", or inappropriate. Keeping the same version number fits for Windows 10 since they still call it Windows 10. But yes, apparently in MS land (Windows and Office applications) version numbers are no longer relevant In the rest world version numbers are relevant.
